Indian Coast Guard Intercepts Pakistani Boat in Arabian Sea, Investigation Launched
The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) intercepted a Pakistani fishing vessel inside Indian territorial waters near the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) in the Arabian Sea on January 14, 2026. The operation was conducted during a routine maritime surveillance patrol off the Gujarat coast.
According to official sources, the fishing boat, identified as Al-Madina, was detected operating illegally within Indian waters. When challenged by the Coast Guard patrol ship, the vessel attempted to flee toward Pakistani waters. However, swift response by ICG personnel led to successful interception and boarding during a night-time operation.
Nine crew members, confirmed to be Pakistani nationals, were detained. The vessel has been escorted to Porbandar port in Gujarat for further inspection and joint interrogation by multiple security agencies. Authorities have launched a formal investigation to determine the motive behind the illegal maritime intrusion.
Officials stated that a case has been registered under the Immigration and Foreigners Act. The incident highlights India's continued maritime vigilance and enforcement measures to safeguard territorial waters against unauthorized cross-border activities.
The Indian Coast Guard reiterated its commitment to maintaining round-the-clock surveillance near the IMBL to prevent illegal fishing, smuggling, and potential security threats in the region.
